Clear to Proceed

On Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro? You're Clear to Fly.

GLP-1 weight loss medications are CACI conditions — your AME can issue your medical certificate on the spot. But there's an important distinction between weight loss use and diabetes use.

A CACI Condition for Weight Loss

GLP-1 medications like Ozempic (semaglutide), Wegovy, and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) fall under the CACI pathway when used for weight loss. This means your AME can approve your certificate at the appointment — no FAA deferral needed.

The process typically takes 1 to 2 weeks including getting your documentation together.

The Critical Distinction

The CACI pathway only applies if your GLP-1 is prescribed for weight loss, not diabetes. If your A1C has ever been 6.5% or higher, you follow the diabetes pathway instead — which has different requirements and timelines.

This distinction catches many pilots off guard. Knowing which pathway applies to you before your AME appointment prevents delays.
