Clear to Proceed

DUI? Know Your FAA Options.

A DUI or DWI does not permanently ground you — but the FAA takes alcohol offenses seriously, and the pathway to certification depends heavily on your specific situation.

Reporting Is Mandatory

The FAA requires you to report any DUI or DWI on your MedXPress application. Beyond that, you must separately report to FAA Civil Aviation Security within 60 days of the event. The FAA cross-references external databases — non-disclosure risks certificate revocation.

Single vs. Multiple Offenses

A single DUI typically goes through the Special Issuance process and may require a substance abuse evaluation. Multiple DUIs are treated much more seriously and usually trigger the HIMS (Human Intervention Motivation Study) protocol — a more intensive evaluation and monitoring program.

The distinction between these pathways is critical. Going in with the wrong approach can result in a denial on your permanent FAA record.

Preparation Is Everything

DUI cases require careful documentation and often coordination with specialized AMEs. Our assessment analyzes your specific situation — number of offenses, timeline, any treatment history — and builds a personalized roadmap so you know exactly what to expect and prepare.
